Bright Orange Ball Of Fire In The Sky Over Plettenberg Bay South Africa

Date:  September 8, 2012
Time:  Approx: 7:15 p.m.

Hi there, below is an article I sent to the local media which is self explanatory. I might just add that it was pretty much the same as the picture on your website except I think the one we saw was larger (difficult to judge) and also a perfect round ball whereas the picture shows a different shape which I would put down to camera shake.

Saturday 8 September 2012, at about 7:15 p.m. what looked like a bright orange ball of fire was seen directly overhead in Nature's Valley by several people at the Nature's Valley restaurant.

It came from the east in the direction of Port Elizabeth and when first seen it was a bright orange ball about the size of a marble held at arms length. As it passed overhead  heading west it slowly diminished in size until about the size of a bright star, but still orange.

The light then spluttered a couple of times and then went out. It seemed to have burnt itself out rather than disappearing into the distance. I also left no visible trail or tail as it passed overhead. The whole episode probably only lasted and 45 seconds to a minute.

It did not seem like it might have been a meteorite. This was very much larger, slower and a completely different colour to the meteor sightings I have experienced. It's track was also not the same as other meteors.

I suspect it might have been some space debris entering the earths atmosphere and then burning up.

The above was published in the local newspapers and I was subsequently contacted by someone else who had seen the same thing from another spot about 200km to the north of Plettenberg Bay.

His story was that it also came from the east and and when overhead it suddenly shot of to the south at great speed toward the Garden route. At that point it changed color to a bright blue/white light.

He also saw it at least an hour before we saw it and he saw a shape attached to it at one point which looked like the wings of a micro-light just above the ball of light.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Also, please feel free to send in your sightings that have happened years ago. So many of these older sightings are nothing short of amazing.
